Scott Bryce, best known for playing Craig Montgomery on As the World Turns, has died. He was 68.

The actor's son Jackson confirmed that Bryce died July 12 after a long battle with cancer. The illness began as stage three esophageal cancer and later spread to become brain tumors.

Jackson wrote on Instagram that his father faced treatment with pride and courage. He added that Bryce held an unshakable belief that everything would work out and called the fight the hardest and most honorable he had witnessed.

Bryce earned back-to-back Daytime Emmy nominations for lead actor in a drama series in 1986 and 1987 for the role. He appeared as a series regular from 1982 to 1987 and returned for guest spots in later years.

He also starred as a regular on the WB series Popular and appeared in shows including The Facts of Life, The Golden Girls, Murphy Brown, and Homeland.
