Sebastian Stan is in negotiations to appear in Matt Reeves' upcoming DC sequel The Batman Part II alongside Robert Pattinson. The film, set for release in October 2027, features a strong ensemble cast including Scarlett Johansson and returning stars from the 2022 original. Details of Stan's role remain undisclosed.
Sebastian Stan, the Oscar-nominated actor best known for portraying Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is in talks to join the cast of The Batman Part II. The sequel to the 2022 film, which grossed $772 million worldwide, stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Directed by Matt Reeves and written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, production is slated to begin next spring.
The cast already includes Scarlett Johansson in a newly added role, with Colin Farrell reprising his part as Oz Cobb, the Penguin; Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon; Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth; and Barry Keoghan expected to return as the Joker. Johansson and Stan have previously collaborated in several Avengers films, while Stan and Pattinson co-starred in the 2020 Netflix drama The Devil All the Time.
Reeves has expressed enthusiasm for the project. In a September interview at the Emmys, he stated, “It’s been a long journey, but I am so incredibly excited. I’m really proud of the script me and Mattson did.” The filmmaker highlighted the production's security measures, noting that the script was kept in “a secret pouch that literally has a lock on it with a code.”
Although developed under DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, The Batman Part II is not part of the relaunched DC Universe, which began with Superman last summer. Stan's recent credits include Thunderbolts* and the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Deadline first reported the casting news, and DC Studios had no immediate comment.
The original The Batman, released in March 2022, was praised for its gritty take on the Dark Knight, setting high expectations for the sequel's exploration of Gotham's underworld.
