Seven new films premiere in Thai cinemas this week

Cinemagoers in Thailand have seven new releases to choose from between February 12 and 18, spanning sequels, adaptations, documentaries, and innovative experiences. Highlights include a supernatural sequel and a virtual reality concert. These films offer diverse stories from local folklore to international tales.

The lineup begins with Sup Pa Ror 2 (The Undertaker 2), directed by Thiti Srinuan and starring Eisaya Hosuwan, Nattawut Sanyabut, and others. The story follows village life disrupted when Grandma Joi dies from a lightning strike but revives, prompting young Thup to see her return as a clue to the afterlife amid his grief. As a sequel to a popular film, it introduces two new cast members.

Next, Pillion, helmed by Harry Lighton, features Harry Melling, Alexander Skarsgård, and Douglas Hodge. It depicts a directionless man drawn into a submissive role by a charismatic biker. Lighton drew inspiration from a weekend with the Gay Bikers Motorcycle Club, whose members advised on the project and appeared in it, with the film debuting at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.

Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights stars Jacob Elordi, Margot Robbie, and Owen Cooper, retelling the classic tale of Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw's stormy romance on the Yorkshire Moors. The production sparked a bidding war among studios, secured by Warner Brothers for a cinema release, premiering on February 13.

Vishal Bhardwaj's O Romeo, with Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, and Avinash Tiwary, is set in post-independence Mumbai amid rising underworld elements. A notable scene echoes the music video "I Wanna Be a Cowboy" by Boys Don't Cry, and it arrives on February 14.

Yoshiyuki Okayama directs Byosoku 5 Senchimetoru (5 Centimetres Per Second), starring Hokuto Matsumura, Yuzu Aoki, and Keiko Horiuchi. This remake of the 2007 film traces Takaki's life as evolving circumstances challenge his romance.

Eugene Yi's documentary The Rose: Come Back To Me follows the South Korean band The Rose, portrayed by Woosung Sammy Kim, Dojoon Leo Park, Hajoon Dylan Lee, and Taegyeom Jeff Lee, from indie origins to worldwide success. It emphasizes mental health, endurance, vulnerability, and artistic renewal, screening from February 18.

Finally, Ateez VR Concert: Light The Way immerses viewers with band members Hongjoong, Seonghwa, Yunho, Yeosang, San, Mingi, Wooyoung, and Jongho in a virtual reality performance designed to enhance proximity to the group.
