Welsh ragga metal band Skindred has unveiled their new single 'Can I Get A', a preview of their ninth studio album 'You Got This', set for release on April 17 via Earache Records. The track blends electro, pop, and heavy metal elements while addressing frontman Benji Webbe's reflections on childhood poverty. An accompanying music video features the band performing with dancers amid swirling graphics.
Skindred, the Welsh ragga metal veterans, released 'Can I Get A' on March 5 or 6, 2026, as the third single from their forthcoming album 'You Got This'. The song opens with a playful electro-honky-tonk intro before transitioning into a singalong chorus featuring 'woop-woops', influences from 1980s pop including a Phil Collins-style drum break, and gospel-style backing vocals. It combines groove-heavy metal with electro and pop hooks, showcasing the band's genre-blurring style.
Beneath the upbeat sound, the lyrics delve into personal themes. Frontman Benji Webbe reflects on his childhood experiences: “It’s me as a child seeing my friends with all these amazing things that people take for granted that I never had,” he explains in a press release. “I was eleven years old and was worried what my life would become. A lot of kids where I lived got into trouble and ended up in prison. I was just gonna grab that microphone and see where it would take me. I want to empower people to know that you can be what you want to be. Don’t spend your life worrying about what you haven’t got. Live your life because now is the time.” Webbe also references being orphaned as a child and raised by his older brother.
'You Got This' is Skindred's ninth studio album, produced by Grammy-winning Jay Ruston, known for work with Corey Taylor and Mr Bungle. It follows their 2023 release 'Smile', which debuted at number 2 on the UK Official Album Chart and won awards including Best Alternative Music Act at the MOBO Awards and Best UK Act at the Heavy Music Awards.
The album tracklist includes: You Got This, Can I Get A, Born Fe Dis, This Is The Sound, Broke, Glass, Big ‘Em Up, Do It Like This, My People, Give Thanks, Dred Or Alive.
To support the album, Skindred has scheduled shows, including Australian dates in September 2026 (Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane) and UK performances in April 2026 (Kingston sold out, Oxford, Bristol, Sheffield, Leeds).
