Paramount+ has announced the streaming debut of “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants” on February 17. The film, the fourth theatrical entry in the animated franchise, follows SpongeBob on a seafaring adventure beyond Bikini Bottom. It features returning voice actors and new talent in supporting roles.
Paramount+ revealed that “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants” will premiere on the streaming service on February 17, following its recent theatrical run. This marks the latest addition to the platform's extensive SpongeBob catalog, which already includes previous theatrical films, spinoff series such as “The Patrick Star Show” and “Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years,” and all 15 seasons of the original “SpongeBob SquarePants” series.
The movie continues the franchise's two-decade legacy across television and film. In the story, SpongeBob SquarePants seeks to demonstrate his bravery to his boss, Mr. Krabs, leading him to encounter the Flying Dutchman, a ghostly pirate. This sets off a comedy-adventure that takes SpongeBob and his friends into uncharted ocean depths far from Bikini Bottom.
Directed by series veteran Derek Drymon, the film preserves the franchise's signature fast-paced humor and visual style while expanding its scope. The core voice cast reprises their roles, with Tom Kenny voicing SpongeBob, joined by Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, and Mr. Lawrence. Supporting voices include George Lopez, Isis “Ice Spice” Gaston, Arturo Castro, Sherry Cola, Regina Hall, and Mark Hamill.
Post-theatrical release, “Search for SquarePants” has garnered a strong critical reception, earning Certified Fresh status on Rotten Tomatoes.
