British metal band Sylosis has released 'Lacerations', the third single from their upcoming album 'The New Flesh', set for February 20 via Nuclear Blast Records. The track highlights the band's intense riffs and melodic hooks, marking a peak in their career. Frontman Josh Middleton describes it as their best song yet, exploring themes of mortality and anxiety.
Sylosis, known for their blend of aggressive metal and intricate melodies, dropped 'Lacerations' today as a preview of their highly anticipated sixth album, 'The New Flesh'. Scheduled for release on February 20 through Nuclear Blast Records, the record promises destructive riffing, sharp melodies, and powerful force, building on the band's evolution since earlier works like 'Edge of the Earth' and 'The Supreme Oppressor'.
'Lacerations' stands out with its anthemic choruses and brutal yet catchy elements, capturing the band's refined intensity. Josh Middleton, the band's guitarist and vocalist, shared insights into its creation: "Lacerations has become a firm favourite amongst those that have heard the new record. After this song came together during the early stages of writing, I felt a huge sense of relief knowing that we had achieved our best song to date. I couldn’t get the chorus out of my head and that’s usually a good sign."
Lyrically, the song delves into personal struggles, as Middleton explained: "Musically it calls back to some of the darker melancholic sounds from Edge of the Earth or even The Supreme Oppressor but with a ton of heavy riffs in there. Lyrically, this song is about facing your own mortality and health anxiety. I think a lot of people can relate to spiralling out of control when they think something’s wrong and how differently you look at your life, and what matters most when confronted with those intrusive thoughts."
Fans can pre-order 'The New Flesh' in formats including CD jewelcase, solid red vinyl, and limited editions like sky blue with black splatter. The album's tracklist features 11 songs, with 'Lacerations' as the fourth: 1. Beneath The Surface, 2. Erased, 3. All Glory, No Valour, 4. Lacerations, 5. Mirror Mirror, 6. Spared From The Guillotine, 7. Adorn My Throne, 8. The New Flesh, 9. Everywhere At Once, 10. Circle Of Swords, 11. Seeds In The River.
To celebrate the release, Sylosis is hosting a free album party on February 20 at The Black Heart in Camden, London, from 12 to 3:30 p.m., including a signing, Q&A, and merch. That evening, they'll perform at London's O2 Forum Kentish Town with Heaven Shall Burn, The Black Dahlia Murder, and Frozen Soul.
The band is midway through a major European tour with Revocation, Distant, and Life Cycles, hitting dates through February 22, many selling fast. Later, they'll head to North America in April and May with Bleed From Within, Great American Ghost, and Life Cycles, covering cities from Worcester to New York.
