A 17-year-old teenager was hit by a train on Line 9-Esmeralda after trying to escape Military Police in São Paulo on Friday. He and a 31-year-old man were suspected of stealing cell phones.
The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, June 5, on Avenida das Nações Unidas in the western zone of the capital. The pair was on a motorcycle and allegedly stole a woman's cell phone. Upon seeing the officers, they fled at high speed, drove against traffic and crashed into a police vehicle near Ponte Eusébio Matoso. The teenager got off the motorcycle and entered the tracks between Pinheiros and Hebraica–Rebouças stations. He was hit by the train and suffered scratches, according to ViaMobilidade. The train had to be emptied at Hebraica–Rebouças station to normalize operations. The Military Police arrested the man at the scene for qualified theft, corruption of a minor and other crimes. The teenager, with a prior record of infractions, was apprehended. Both were taken to hospitals. The Public Security Secretariat confirmed the recovery of two cell phones.
