Terraria 1.4.5 update arrives on game's 15th anniversary

Re-Logic and 505 Games have launched the long-awaited Update 1.4.5 for Terraria, coinciding with the game's 15th anniversary. This major patch introduces over 650 new items and crossover content from Dead Cells and Palworld. It enhances crafting, inventory management, and world generation across all platforms.

The release of Terraria's Update 1.4.5 marks a significant milestone for the indie survival-crafting game, first launched in 2011. Originally announced in 2022 after the 2020 Journey's End update, the patch—dubbed Bigger & Boulder—brings substantial improvements to gameplay mechanics.

A revamped crafting interface draws from the Research and Duplication UI in Journey Mode, featuring tabs instead of the previous grid view. Players can now automatically draw materials from nearby chests, streamlining the process without manual inventory transfers. With more than 5,000 items in the game, inventory management sees upgrades like increased stackability for various objects.

Early-game housing becomes simpler, as newly spawning villagers no longer need a valid house and retreat to safety at night. The new World Seed menu simplifies selecting specific world generations, including a challenging Skyblock seed that omits ground entirely, testing players' digging and exploration skills in a vertical-only environment.

Beyond quality-of-life changes, the update adds over 650 new items. It includes official crossovers with Dead Cells, offering furniture and weaponry from that universe, and Palworld, featuring some of its popular creatures. These collaborations follow content additions in the partner games, now extending to Terraria.

Terraria, a 2D pixelated take on open-world exploration and crafting akin to Minecraft, has seen renewed interest. The update propelled it to fourth place among most-played titles on Steam, with approximately 160,000 concurrent players. The game remains available on PC, Mac, Linux via Steam, as well as PlayStation, Switch, Xbox, and mobile devices, holding a T for Teen rating.
