Swiss forward Timo Meier received a one-game suspension for a knee-on-knee hit on Sweden's Oskar Sundqvist during the IIHF World Championship quarterfinal in Zürich. The IIHF disciplinary committee overruled the on-ice call of two minutes for crosschecking. Meier will miss Switzerland's semifinal against Norway.
The incident occurred roughly 14 minutes into the second period of the quarterfinal between Switzerland and Sweden. Meier, a New Jersey Devils forward, attempted a check on Sundqvist of the St. Louis Blues. Sundqvist turned away, resulting in a dangerous leg-to-leg collision that forced the Swedish player off the ice with assistance and left him in a wheelchair afterward.
