Two men arrested for robbery with homicide in Puerto Montt

On October 18, a man was murdered in his home in the Piedra Azul sector of Puerto Montt after two assailants violently broke in to rob him. The attackers beat the victim and shot him, causing his death. On Sunday, the Investigations Police (PDI) arrested the perpetrators, identified as two men aged 33 and 18, who had traveled from Valdivia to Puerto Montt specifically to commit crimes.

The arrests followed thorough investigations by the Puerto Montt Homicide Brigade. During the operation, detectives seized various crime-related evidence, including firearms, 9mm and 12mm ammunition, shotgun shells, tactical vests, 70.45 grams of drugs (cocaine hydrochloride and base cocaine), a revolver, cell phones, and $673,090 in cash. They also confiscated the vehicle used by the suspects in the robbery, which will be examined by the Institutional Criminalistics Laboratory, along with a blue beacon, high-end watches, and technological devices.

Subprefect Walt Dapremont, acting head of the Puerto Montt Homicide Brigade, stated: “From the investigations, various items linked to the crime were seized, including firearms and ammunition, tactical vests, a blue beacon, cash, high-end watches, technological devices, and narcotics such as cocaine hydrochloride and base cocaine. Additionally, the vehicle used by the subjects to travel on the day they committed the robbery with homicide in the Carretera Austral sector was seized, which will be subjected to examinations by the Institutional Criminalistics Laboratory”.

This case highlights the mobility of criminal gangs across regions and the PDI's key role in gathering evidence to resolve homicides linked to robberies.
