Uppsala municipality is building a 26 square meter screen outside Studenternas Arena to show the 2026 World Cup. The area holds about 5 000 people and is open to all on a first-come first-served basis.
The screen will show all group stage matches with kickoff before midnight as well as Sweden’s night matches. Stefan Wittberg, business area manager at Uppsala Arenor och Fastigheter, says they hope for large crowds even when Sweden is not playing. The area is now being prepared and the event has a budget of 800 000 kronor funded by sponsors and partners. Wittberg also mentions discussions about showing other night matches later during the days. First come first served applies and Wittberg warns that it may get crowded if people arrive late. Several serving permits have been granted in the area during the World Cup period.
