Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) will graduate 8,654 students across various schools during its 37th convocation on November 20. The event coincides with the institution's 78th anniversary and the approval of its transition to a university. Rector Dr Ibraheem Abdul highlighted key achievements, including innovative research projects.

Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) in Lagos is preparing to celebrate its 37th convocation, marking a milestone for 8,654 graduating students from schools of Arts, Engineering, Science, Technology, Liberal Studies, and Agricultural Technology. The ceremony, scheduled for November 20, 2025, aligns with the college's 78th anniversary and comes shortly after the Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu, approved Yabatech's conversion into the University of Technology and Vocational Studies.

Rector Dr Ibraheem Abdul emphasized the institution's progress in his statement. “This year’s convocation represents one of the school’s most significant academic cycles, which coincides with its 78th anniversary and comes at a time when the Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu, has approved the transition of YABATECH into a University of Technology and Vocational Studies,” he said.

Activities kicked off with a Jumat Service, leading to the convocation lecture on November 18 titled ‘Entrepreneurship development in the digital age: Leveraging technology for job creation and economic growth’. The lecture will be delivered by Senate Majority Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele and chaired by Prof. Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.

During the event, Yabatech will confer its Fellowship Award on Bamidele, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), and BUA Group Chairman Abdul-Samad Isyaku Rabiu. Abdul also spotlighted recent milestones, such as the Plastogas project, which converts waste plastics into gas with support from the French Embassy. He noted that this innovation has positioned Yabatech among the few global institutions advancing in this field.

The rector assured participants of robust security, logistics, and health measures. “With pride and optimism, we look forward to celebrating the achievements of our graduands, and reaffirming our commitment to national development,” Abdul added.
