Zahi Hawass unveils ‘Cleopatra: The Truth’ VR experience in Milan

Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass announced a new virtual reality experience titled “Cleopatra: The Truth” during a press conference at Milan’s Palazzo Reale. The project, developed with Kathleen Martinez, aims to present the queen’s life through immersive technology. The global premiere is set for November 2026.

The event drew Walid Othman, Egypt’s consul general in Milan, and Walid El Battoty, global ambassador of tourist guides, along with nearly 150 journalists.

Hawass described Cleopatra as a powerful monarch and exceptional political strategist rather than solely a legendary figure. The two-hour VR production will open first in Milan on 1 November 2026 before traveling to Cairo and then touring internationally.

The collaboration highlights ongoing excavations at Taposiris Magna, where Martinez is searching for Cleopatra’s tomb. The experience combines historical research with virtual reality to offer audiences a detailed view of the queen’s legacy.
