A 13-year-old eighth-grader at Lucille Umbarger Middle School in Burlington, Washington, was allegedly attacked by two classmates in a locker room after they questioned her about President Donald Trump and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to the girl’s family and reporting by unDivided’s Brandi Kruse. Burlington police said they are investigating, but declined to release further details because the case involves juveniles.
The alleged assault took place at Lucille Umbarger Middle School in Burlington, in Skagit County, Washington. The Daily Wire reported that the student and her mother said the girl was cornered in a school locker room by two classmates who demanded to know her views on President Donald Trump and ICE. The family said that after the girl responded that it was “none of their business,” she was assaulted.
A cellphone video of the incident circulated among students and on social media, The Daily Wire reported. The outlet said the video appears to show two students punching the girl, pulling her hair, and trying to drag her to the floor while other students watched or recorded.
The Daily Wire linked the dispute to TikTok posts it said were made by the girl’s boyfriend, including one that read, “Plan A: marry a nice girl, have kids, get rich,” and another that read, “Plan B: become an ICE agent.”
Brandi Kruse, a reporter for unDivided, wrote on X on February 23, 2026, that police were involved and warned that the footage was graphic, according to The Daily Wire.
The Daily Wire also reported that the family criticized the school’s response, citing Kruse’s account that the video had been shared among students and staff for days and that it took the principal five days to contact the girl’s mother, with the family alleging the school did so only after media inquiries.
Burlington Police Chief Kevin Turner confirmed an active investigation, telling The Daily Wire: “We are working through all the details.” He added that because the case involves juveniles, the department could not provide further information.
The Daily Wire reported that the Burlington-Edison School District was developing a “safety plan” to help the student return to campus, and that Kruse said local law enforcement recommended extending the suspension of the two alleged attackers until the girl’s safety could be ensured. The Daily Wire said the district had not issued a formal public statement as of the outlet’s publication, and that the girl’s mother described the attack as “savage” while authorizing public release of details.
