Aaron Wise spoke openly about his mental health challenges during a press conference at the 3M Open on Wednesday. The 30-year-old golfer, who withdrew from the 2023 Masters to focus on his well-being, is competing this week under a major medical extension.
Wise described his time away from the PGA Tour as a period of recovery that lasted about a year and a half. He credited sessions with sports neuroscientist Dr. Izzy Justice and mobile EEG scans for helping him understand and manage his brain activity, which he said had reached high stress levels during his decline.
The former NCAA champion and 2018 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year missed the cut in his first six starts this season. Recent results include a tie for 39th at the John Deere Classic and a tie for third at the ISCO Championship. His wife now serves as his caddie.
Wise holds a 12:44 p.m. local tee time Thursday alongside Aldrich Potgieter and Kevin Yu. He plans to play six consecutive events and said he is working to keep external pressures from affecting his performance.
