The AlmaLinux OS Foundation has announced the release of AlmaLinux OS 10.1, the first point release of its version 10 series. This update introduces support for the Btrfs file system and serves as a free alternative to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10.1. It includes various performance enhancements and updated tools for better security and development.
On November 24, 2025, the AlmaLinux OS Foundation released AlmaLinux OS 10.1, codenamed Heliotrope Lion. This marks the initial point release for the AlmaLinux OS 10 series, positioning it as a bug-for-bug compatible alternative to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10.1.
Key highlights include native support for the Btrfs file system, SPICE support for virtual machines, frame pointers enabled by default for improved debugging, and the CRB (CodeReady Builder) repository activated by default in new installations. The release also extends support to x86_64_v2 processors, enhancing compatibility with modern hardware.
Performance improvements and security updates are prominent, alongside refreshed development tools. The toolchain features GCC 15.1, GNU Binutils 2.44, GNU C Library 2.39, LLVM 20.1.8, Rust 1.88.0, Go 1.24, and Annobin 12.99. Other notable updates encompass NetworkManager 1.54, QEMU 10, Node.js 24, Podman 5.6.0, Mesa 25.0.7, Samba 4.22.4, Python 3.12.11, Apache 2.4.63, SSSD 2.11.1, SELinux-policy 42.1.7, OpenSSL 3.5, Grafana 10.2.6, PCP 6.3.7, GDB 16.3, SystemTap 5.3, and Valgrind 3.25.1.
Installation ISO images are available for 64-bit x86_64, x86_64_v2, AArch64 (ARM64), PowerPC 64-bit Little Endian (ppc64le), and IBM System Z (s390x) architectures. Live images, cloud images, and containers will follow. New users can download from the official website, while existing installations upgrade via the command 'sudo dnf update' in a terminal.
