Andela and CNCF launch Kubernetes training for African developers

Applications have opened for the 2026 Andela-CNCF Kubernetes African Developer Training Program, aimed at equipping thousands of African technologists with cloud native skills. The initiative, a partnership between the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, Linux Foundation Education, and Andela, seeks to train 20,000 to 30,000 participants to boost their prospects in the global job market. The seven-week program focuses on essential Kubernetes knowledge through a blend of learning formats.

The Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), in collaboration with Linux Foundation Education and Andela, has announced the opening of applications for its 2026 Kubernetes African Developer Training Program. This effort targets 20,000 to 30,000 African technologists, providing them with foundational skills in cloud native technologies to enhance their competitiveness in international employment opportunities amid the rapid expansion of cloud native development.

Spanning seven weeks, the program combines self-paced study, mentor-guided sessions, and peer interactions to maintain steady progress. Participants will engage with the 'Kubernetes and Cloud Native Essentials' course hosted on the Linux Foundation platform. Key topics include an overview of Kubernetes architecture, the intricacies of container orchestration, and strategies for deploying and monitoring applications across distributed systems.

To qualify, applicants need a firm grasp of Linux commands, basic networking, and cloud computing principles. Additional prerequisites encompass familiarity with Kubernetes and containerization tools, package managers, as well as proficiency in Git and GitHub. These requirements ensure participants can fully participate and benefit from the curriculum.

Interested individuals can submit applications through the official online form. The deadline for submissions is February 15, 2026. This program underscores the growing emphasis on upskilling in Africa to meet global tech demands, fostering a pipeline of skilled developers ready for cloud native roles.
