Authorities investigate armed attack leaving man seriously injured in Valdivia

The Team Against Organized Crime and Homicides from the Los Ríos Regional Prosecutor's Office is investigating a frustrated homicide that occurred on Sunday afternoon in Valdivia's Pablo Neruda neighborhood. A 42-year-old man was shot twice, once in the leg and once in the abdomen, and was rushed to Valdivia Base Hospital, where he remains in an induced coma. Police and forensics experts are working to clarify the circumstances and identify the perpetrators.

The incident occurred on Nelson Ríos Street, meters from the corner with Honorino Landa, in Valdivia's Pablo Neruda neighborhood. According to initial reports gathered, the victim, a 42-year-old man, was targeted by gunfire during Sunday afternoon. He sustained one wound to the leg and another to the abdomen, prompting his immediate transfer to Valdivia Base Hospital.

There, doctors have placed him in an induced coma due to the severity of his injuries. The Los Ríos Regional Prosecutor's Office, through its Team Against Organized Crime and Homicides (ECOH), has launched an investigation into the frustrated homicide. They have directed the Police Investigation Section (SIP) of Carabineros to conduct initial inquiries, while the Criminalistics Laboratory (Labocar) performs key forensics to reconstruct the event.

The ECOH is working alongside specialized Carabineros units to collect evidence from the scene and gather testimonies from potential witnesses. So far, no arrests have been made, and the attackers remain unidentified. The probe aims to establish the precise sequence of events and any underlying motives, amid rising concerns over armed violence in the region.

This case underscores the authorities' efforts to tackle organized crime in Los Ríos, though preliminary details suggest a targeted assault on the victim.
