With the loss to Norway on Saturday, Brazil confirmed a negative mark. For the first time since 1934, the team is eliminated by a squad that does not finish among the top three.
Norway, led by Erling Haaland, secured at most fifth place in the tournament. The last time Brazil fell to a non-podium team was against Spain, which finished fifth in the 1934 World Cup in Italy.
Since winning the fifth title in 2002, Brazil had been eliminated only by teams that finished at least third. The defeat extends the country's longest World Cup drought since 1958.
