Brazil's Foreign Ministry confirmed a mother and her 11-year-old Brazilian child died in an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon on Sunday (26). The Lebanese father was also killed, and another Brazilian child is hospitalized. Itamaraty condemned ceasefire violations.

Brazil's Foreign Ministry (Itamaraty) said on Monday (27) the family was at home in Bint Jeil district, southern Lebanon, during the Israeli bombing on Sunday (26).

"This attack is another example of repeated and unacceptable violations of the ceasefire announced on April 16, which have already resulted in the deaths of dozens of Lebanese civilians, including women and children, as well as a journalist and two French members of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL)," Itamaraty stated in a note.

Brazil expressed condolences and renewed condemnation of attacks by both Israeli forces and Hezbollah, as well as systematic demolitions of civilian homes and forced displacement of over one million Lebanese. The ministry calls for hostilities to cease and Israeli troops to withdraw from Lebanon, and is assisting the family through its embassy in Beirut.

The ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, extended for three weeks on Thursday (23), has not halted fighting. Lebanon's Health Ministry reported 14 deaths in the south on Sunday, including two children and two women.
