BTS unveils trailer for 'The Return' documentary

BTS has released a trailer for the Netflix documentary BTS: The Return, which chronicles the making of their comeback album Arirang. The film debuts on March 27, ahead of the album's release on March 20. The group reunited in Los Angeles after completing mandatory military service.

BTS, consisting of RM, Jin, Jimin, V, Suga, J-Hope and Jung Kook, dropped the trailer on Monday for BTS: The Return. The documentary captures the members reflecting on their time apart during military service. One voiceover states, “Being part of a team like BTS is like wearing a big, incredible crown,” while another says, “We are finally back where we’re meant to be.” Clips show the group performing for thousands of fans and scenes from Los Angeles, where they reunited to record their first album in more than five years. RM comments in the trailer, “In the military, time just passed by, but here in L.A., you really feel the impermanence of time. And we’re trying to find out what makes us BTS.” After the last member finished service, the seven relocated to Los Angeles in mid-2025, sharing a house for two months—the first time together since 2015. Mornings involved physical training, followed by studio sessions with collaborators. RM told GQ, “We’d do six days a week, like businessmen,” adding it felt like trainee days but with stadium tours and billions of streams behind them. A press release describes the doc as a “portrait of resilience, brotherhood, and reinvention,” addressing “how to begin again, how to honor the past without being bound by it, and how to move forward together.” Arirang marks their first LP since completing mandatory military service in South Korea. Separately, BTS announced their first U.S. performance in nearly four years on March 23 at Spotify x BTS: SWIMSIDE in New York City, for 1,000 top fans.
