Influencer Carlinhos Maia returned to social media and revealed he underwent facial surgery to correct his double chin due to personal aesthetic discomfort. The disclosure sparked discussions on facial aesthetic procedures. Experts emphasize the need for individualized assessments.
Carlinhos Maia surprised followers by announcing he underwent surgery in the double chin area, below the jaw, to remove excess skin and fat that bothered him.
Facial plastic surgeon Yuri Moresco, a member of the Sociedade Brasileira de Cirurgia Plástica and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, explained that double chin correction typically involves cervical lifting techniques. "From the plastic surgery perspective, double chin correction mostly involves combining cervical lifting techniques to adjust both the musculature and the more superficial layers of skin and fat," he said.
The specialist noted that the procedure is indicated for localized fat accumulation associated with skin flaccidity, more common in patients over 40, but possible earlier in specific cases. He detailed: "The surgery consists of repositioning tissues and removing excess skin, improving the cervical contour and jawline definition".
Moresco warned of the importance of selecting the appropriate technique, avoiding mere liposuction without addressing flaccidity, which could compromise the aesthetic outcome. Public figures like Carlinhos Maia exposing such procedures broadens the debate on beauty standards and individual choices for aesthetic interventions.
