A video posted by the Spaniard on Instagram two weeks earlier showed him hitting balls again, raising hopes of a return. Those expectations have now been pushed back further, leaving fans uncertain about his participation in the upcoming hard-court swing.
The tournament field remains strong without him. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, No. 3 Alexander Zverev and defending champion Ben Shelton are among the top players entered, with the event scheduled to begin after Wimbledon concludes this weekend.
