Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey extended trailer to premiere in IMAX

Universal is set to release a six-minute extended trailer for Christopher Nolan's upcoming film The Odyssey ahead of its 2026 theatrical debut. The preview will screen before select IMAX 70mm showings of other films starting this month. The movie, an adaptation of Homer's epic, features a star-studded cast including Tom Holland as Telemachus.

Trailer Release Details

The extended trailer for The Odyssey, running nearly six minutes, will begin playing before IMAX 70mm screenings of Sinners and One Battle After Another on December 12, 2025. A shorter version is scheduled to precede all showings of Avatar: Fire and Ash starting December 19, 2025, with the full extended preview continuing for subsequent screenings of the James Cameron project.

Nolan's film was captured entirely using IMAX cameras, making these large-format screenings the ideal format to experience the prologue. The Odyssey marks Nolan's adaptation of Homer's ancient poem, following Odysseus, King of Ithaca, on his journey home after the Trojan War. It is slated for a wide theatrical release on July 17, 2026.

Cast and Production Insights

The ensemble cast includes Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, and Elliot Page. Tom Holland portrays Telemachus, Odysseus's son, and has shared positive experiences from the production. In an interview with Agence France-Presse, Holland described the script as "the best script I’ve ever read." He also praised Nolan's directing style, noting that the filmmaker "is a real collaborator" who "knows what he wants… but it is not an environment where you can’t pitch ideas or build characters in certain ways."

This promotional push highlights Nolan's commitment to immersive cinema, building anticipation for the film's epic scope just months before its premiere.
