Colorado College prepares for final home basketball weekend

The Colorado College Tigers men's and women's basketball teams return home for Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference crossover games against Centenary College and LeTourneau this weekend. The men's team hosts Centenary on Friday at 5:30 p.m. MT and LeTourneau on Sunday at noon MT for Senior Day. The women's team faces Centenary at 7:30 p.m. Friday and LeTourneau at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Both Tiger squads enter the weekend on positive notes after recent victories over Texas Lutheran. The men's team defeated Texas Lutheran with a balanced scoring effort, led by Gavin Carter's 13 points and six assists, Asher Nofziger's 11 points and 13 rebounds, and 11 points each from Christian Drummond and nine from Russell MacFarlane and Ty Hendler. Colorado College averages 76.7 points per game, shooting 44.5 percent from the field, while holding opponents to 75.4 points.

Nofziger leads the Tigers with 15.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, followed by Hendler's 12.4 points and Carter's 7.5 points along with 105 assists this season.

The women's team won 63-53 over Texas Lutheran on Feb. 15 at Stephens Family Arena, where JuJu Garcia scored a career-high 15 points on five three-pointers, Isa Nelson added 14 points, and Rayna Welsch recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. The Tigers limited Texas Lutheran to six points in the first quarter and led by as many as 21. With an 18-5 overall record and 13-1 in SCAC Gold Division play, Colorado College averages 64.2 points while allowing 56.1 and holds a plus-3.7 rebounding margin. Kayla Mackel leads scoring at 14.9 points per game and needs 22 more to reach 1,000 career points; Welsch averages 12.9 points and 6.5 rebounds, Nelson 8.7 points, and Andie Will has 66 assists.

Centenary's men's team averages just over 71 points and 42 percent shooting with balanced scoring and 33 rebounds per game. The women's team is 3-20 overall and 2-12 in conference, averaging 50 points while allowing over 72 and shooting 33.6 percent from the field with 35.2 rebounds.

LeTourneau's men average 89.2 points, 47.2 percent shooting, and 37.8 percent from three-point range; Jackson Mayes scores 20 points per game, Teigan Edwards 14.5, and Logan Brinkoeter grabs 7.9 rebounds, with the team averaging 17.3 assists and a positive turnover margin. The women's Yellow Jackets are 5-18 overall and 2-12 in conference, averaging 61.1 points while allowing 69.2, shooting 35.8 percent from the field and 29.4 percent from three; Kylie Weeks leads with 11.9 points and Mariana Espinosa adds 11.4 points and 5.7 rebounds.

The women's Tigers can clinch the Gold Division title with one win and are pursuing a third consecutive 20-win season, the first such streak since 1980-81.
