Dee Saban seriously injured in Bali padel match

Dee Saban, a veteran padel player from Perth, Australia, suffered severe injuries after colliding with a glass wall during a match in Bali. The incident, captured on CCTV, involved a 3-meter-high wall that shattered, embedding glass shards in his shoulder and legs. Saban underwent emergency surgery in Perth following initial treatment in Bali.

On February 12, 2026, Dee Saban was playing padel with three companions at Amare Padel Club in Canggu, West Bali. Rushing to complete a shot, he collided with a 3-meter-high glass perimeter wall, causing it to shatter and send sharp shards in all directions. Security camera footage showed the moment Saban sustained multiple serious cuts, contusions, and abrasions, with pieces of glass embedding deeply in his shoulder and legs.

Saban, who was playing his first match since a Padel Academy Tournament in December, initially did not realize the extent of his injuries. "It was only when I saw the faces of my teammates as they ran towards me that I realized it was serious," he told media outlets including The Daily Mail. "The level of injuries on my legs is bad. Some of the cuts are 5 centimeters deep, and I have lost a lot of blood. It’s lucky I didn’t hit him in the face, which is common in the game. If that had happened, I don’t think I would be here now."

He was rushed to a hospital in Bali by ambulance, where X-rays confirmed the embedded glass requiring surgical intervention. Saban and his wife then flew back to Perth, Australia, for further emergency surgery to remove the shards. Saban noted that colliding with glass walls is a common occurrence in padel, but the shattering was unprecedented for him.

After the video surfaced online, Saban learned of at least seven similar incidents at the same venue. "Seven times that we know of. There are other videos that show this. I could have died. There was blood everywhere; it was like a crime scene," he said. Public comments on social media have questioned the use of non-shatterproof glass in the court's construction. The Amare Padel Club has not issued an official statement in response to media inquiries.
