Egypt approves budget to modernise grain silos

Egypt’s Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk chaired a meeting approving the estimated budget for the Egyptian Holding Company for Silos and Storage for fiscal year 2026/27.

The General Assembly meeting reviewed the company’s financial and operational performance along with progress on upgrading the national silo network. Discussions centred on improving efficiency, maximising storage capacity, reducing losses and maintaining grain quality to international standards.

Farouk stressed that the company is a cornerstone of Egypt’s food security system. He called for accelerated modernisation programmes, greater use of advanced technology and continued investment in infrastructure and human capital.

The minister also highlighted the need for strong governance, ongoing performance monitoring and sustainable management to secure strategic grain reserves against market fluctuations and other challenges.
