Egypt’s Health Ministry announced the nationwide rollout of the Newborn Care Pathway programme beginning june 1 2026. The initiative will provide integrated services for mothers and newborns through primary healthcare centres. It forms part of the Healthy Life Course programme under Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar.

The programme targets the first month after birth with preventive and therapeutic care. Newborn services in the initial week include medical exams, growth checks, hearing tests, and screenings for inherited conditions. Vaccinations such as polio, hepatitis B, and BCG will also be offered.

Mothers will receive postnatal support including breastfeeding guidance and information on warning signs. Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar highlighted the focus on early detection during this critical period.
