Enap reports fuel price increases starting this Thursday

Chile's National Petroleum Company (Enap) released its weekly price report, showing rises in gasoline and diesel prices from Thursday, April 16. 93-octane gasoline will increase by $20.2 per liter and 97-octane by $22.3, while diesel rises $36.4. The Mepco mechanism cushioned the hike, according to the undersecretary of Finance.

Enap released its weekly reference fuel prices effective from Thursday, April 16. The report shows 93-octane gasoline rising $20.2 per liter, 97-octane $22.3, diesel $36.4 and vehicle GLP $36.5. Kerosene shows no change.

In the Metropolitan Region, current average prices are $1,537 per liter for 93-octane, $1,589 for 95-octane, $1,643 for 97-octane and $1,510 for diesel, according to the CNE's bencinaenlinea site. With the adjustment, reference prices would reach $1,557, $1,610, $1,665 and $1,546 respectively.

Undersecretary of Finance Juan Pablo Rodríguez stated that without the Fuel Prices Stabilization Mechanism (Mepco), the increase would have been much larger. Enap clarified that its publication does not set or regulate final prices, which are autonomously determined by distributor companies.

This differs from the March 26 adjustment, when the government neutralized Mepco, leading to historic rises: $372.2 for 93-octane, $391.5 for 97-octane and $580.3 for diesel, due to fiscal pressures and high global oil prices from the Iran war.

Enap announced a new $107.4 per liter increase in kerosene (parafina) prices, adding to last week's $107.9 rise, pushing Santiago prices near $1,400. The government is reviewing changes to Mepco and FEPP amid Middle East conflict pressures and fiscal constraints. Minister García Ruminot said a proposal will be resolved soon.

Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz announced increases of $370 per liter in 93-octane gasoline and $580 in diesel, effective from Thursday, March 26, due to the international oil price surge from the Iran conflict. The government also activated palliative measures, including freezing Transantiago fares until year-end and subsidies for taxi drivers. Quiroz justified the moves as necessary to align local prices with international levels and safeguard public finances.

Motorists in the Philippines face another fuel price hike this week, with diesel rising by P1.40 per liter effective Tuesday, January 27. This continues a five-week upward trend for diesel. Gasoline and kerosene prices will also increase modestly.

Oil companies implemented major fuel price hikes effective April 7, pushing diesel prices past P140 to P150 per liter in several areas. The increases stem from volatility in global crude markets reacting to Middle East conflict. These mark historic highs despite staggered adjustments.

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced new fuel prices for the April-May 2026 cycle, with super petrol rising by Ksh28.69 per litre to Ksh206.97 in Nairobi. Diesel increased by Ksh40.30 to Ksh206.84 per litre, while kerosene remains unchanged at Ksh152.78. The hikes stem from sharp rises in landed costs combined with taxes and margins.

Updated industry estimates project even larger diesel cuts of P24 to P26 per liter and gasoline P2.50 to P3.50 per liter starting April 21, up from earlier P17-P19 projections, as the global oil war premium continues to unwind—extending relief from the April 14 rollbacks amid the 2026 fuel crisis.
