Faf du Plessis opts out of IPL 2026 auction

South African batter Faf du Plessis has decided not to register for the IPL 2026 auction, signaling the end of his time in the tournament. The former RCB captain and CSK stalwart leaves a strong legacy after a decade of impactful performances. This choice comes amid preparations for the next IPL season.

Faf du Plessis, the South African opener known for his aggressive batting, has chosen to withdraw from the IPL 2026 auction. This decision marks a significant moment for the 40-year-old cricketer, who captained Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in recent seasons and previously starred for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Throughout his IPL career, du Plessis amassed 4773 runs at an average of 35.09 and a strike rate of 135.78, including 39 fifties. He contributed to CSK's IPL triumphs in 2018 and 2021. His standout performances highlight his value to the league.

Among his top knocks, du Plessis scored an unbeaten 79 off 46 balls against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in 2023, smashing five fours and five sixes to help RCB post 212/2. Despite his efforts, LSG chased the target on the last ball. Earlier in 2022, he made 96 off 64 balls against LSG, with 11 fours and two sixes, earning Player of the Match in an 18-run victory.

In 2021 for CSK, he remained not out on 95 off 60 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), featuring nine fours and four sixes, powering a total of 220/3 for an 18-run win. Another fiery 96 off 55 balls came in 2019 against Punjab Kings (PBKS), with 10 fours and four sixes, though CSK lost as PBKS chased 171 in 18 overs. His match-winning 67 not out off 42 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2018 Qualifier 1 saw him rescue CSK from 140/8 to chase down the target.

Du Plessis' departure from the auction leaves fans reflecting on his contributions to IPL's excitement.
