Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil plans to abolish the paper receipt obligation for small amounts.
Lars Klingbeil of the SPD has presented a draft law that abolishes the receipt obligation in stages over time. Initially the obligation will no longer apply to purchases up to 30 euros. The rule was introduced in 2016 by Wolfgang Schäuble and took effect in 2020. Retailers must provide receipts digitally in future, for example by email or QR code. The change stems from agreements between the Union and SPD in coalition negotiations. No exact date for implementation is given in the draft.
