Update Overview
Frostpunk 2's update 1.000.009 launched on December 8 for consoles, bringing the Fractured Utopias DLC and additional free features to the base game. This patch follows version 1.000.007 and requires a mandatory download for all players. Base game owners gain access to enhancements like a redesigned main menu, the ability to force a starting faction, an additional map, and new Centrist Policies for existing laws.
Fractured Utopias DLC Details
The DLC introduces a faction-driven experience, letting players choose from eight established factions at the start, each influencing their city's direction. Options include pursuing innovation with Technocrats or building a militaristic society with Legionnaires. Selecting a faction unlocks a unique skill tree with exclusive buildings, hubs, and abilities, progressed by earning favor through specific actions.
Factions also provide passive traits that boost city stability and productivity. As players advance, their settlement visually and functionally adapts to the chosen philosophy. New faction-dedicated Hubs and Housing Districts offer survival benefits against the Frost.
"This City Unbound is a special one for us because it marks the reveal of our very first Frostpunk 2 DLC," noted the developers. The DLC emphasizes ideology under pressure through narrative gameplay twists called Tales, which can be played alone or combined for challenges— a first in strategy games.
