Government to curtail IndiGo's winter flight schedule

Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu said on Monday that the government will curtail IndiGo's winter flight schedule due to recent large-scale operational disruptions and reallocate slots to other operators. He noted that refunds of ₹745 crore have been issued for 7,30,655 cancelled PNRs from December 1 to 8. Bag deliveries are also progressing rapidly.

On December 8, 2025, Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu told the Doordarshan news channel that the government will curtail IndiGo's winter flight schedule. He stated, "We will curtail IndiGo's routes. They are currently operating 2,200 flights. We will definitely curtail them." This decision follows a nationwide cancellation crisis that affected hundreds of flights.

The minister said refunds of ₹745 crore have been given for 7,30,655 cancelled PNRs from December 1 to 8 (as of 5 pm). IndiGo later updated that it had refunded Rs 827 crore for cancellations up to December 15. The airline reported a 90 per cent on-time performance on Monday, operating more than 1,800 flights despite over 450 cancellations.

Additionally, 6,000 of 9,000 passenger bags have been delivered, with the rest scheduled for Monday night or Tuesday morning. The ministry will hold a meeting with airline operators today (December 9) to prevent future such fiascos. This step aims to ensure passenger convenience and maintain market balance.
