Halle Berry sad Storm role absent from Avengers: Doomsday

Halle Berry has expressed disappointment over not reprising her role as Storm in the upcoming Marvel film Avengers: Doomsday, but she remains open to future appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Oscar-winning actress highlighted her affection for the X-Men franchise during a recent interview. While several of her former co-stars are returning, Berry's absence marks a notable omission from the ensemble.

Halle Berry, who portrayed the weather-controlling mutant Storm in the X-Men film series from 2000 to 2014, recently shared her feelings about not appearing in Avengers: Doomsday. In an interview with ScreenRant while promoting her new film Crime 101, Berry stated, “While I’m sad I won’t be in ‘Doomsday’ this round, there are other rounds. And I would do that in a heartbeat.”

She emphasized the significance of the X-Men world, saying, “I think the whole world of the X-Men and being mutants and outcasts. [They’ve] been movies that I’ve been proud to have my children watch. They have so much to say that I thought has been really important, especially for my children as they’ve grown. So they’re beloved.” Berry appeared as Storm in X-Men (2000), X2: X-Men United (2002), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). She added, “Storm is a very special character to me. I’ve been so blessed [that I’ve] gotten to play her.”

Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. The film will feature a reunion of several X-Men actors, including Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, James Marsden as Cyclops, Channing Tatum as Gambit, and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique. Additional MCU stars include Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Simu Liu, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, and Lewis Pullman. Robert Downey Jr. will return as the villain Doctor Doom, not Tony Stark.

Separately, Marvel's X-Men reboot is underway, with director Jake Schreier noting in an August interview with Empire, “I can’t say anything about it, but we’ve started work on X-Men, and that’s obviously very, very exciting.” Berry's comments suggest potential opportunities for her Storm character in upcoming MCU projects beyond Doomsday.
