Havana elects Reinol Delfín as vice-governor

In a vote held on Sunday across Havana's fifteen municipalities, Reinol Delfín García Moreiro was elected as the capital's new vice-governor, a position vacant since August. The National Electoral Council oversaw the process, which approved the presidential proposal with 98.53% support from delegates. Delfín previously served as deputy minister of Public Health.

The electoral process to select Havana's vice-governor concluded on Sunday with the election of Reinol Delfín García Moreiro. The National Electoral Council organized, directed, and supervised the vote across the capital's fifteen municipalities. The proposal, submitted by the president, garnered 98.53% support from the 1,154 authenticated delegates.

The position had been vacant since August, and Delfín, who recently appeared on television explaining the arbovirus situation as deputy minister of Public Health, was the sole candidate proposed. The Council described the vote as transparent, impartial, and legal, conducted in a free, equal, direct, and secret manner.

This election aligns with the 'General Strategy for Implementing the Cadre Policy in the 2021–2026 Period,' approved in 2021 by the Party's Central Committee Plenum. The process highlights the selection of leaders for key responsibilities, rooted in principles from the Revolution's triumph.

While the event underscores continuity in local governance, some critics have questioned the lack of multiple options, viewing it as an instance of presidential appointment. Nonetheless, the results indicate strong approval among electoral participants.
