High Court judges will take a 46-day recess from August 1 to September 15 2026. Urgent cases will continue to be heard during this period.
Principal High Court Judge Eric Ogola announced the recess in a notice published in the Kenya Gazette on June 19. The recess covers the High Court and courts of equal status.
Duty judges will be appointed at stations to handle urgent matters. All 47 High Court stations and six sub-registries will stay open from 8am to 5pm on weekdays.
The Judiciary stated that these steps aim to maintain access to justice for time-sensitive cases. Several petitions including one by the Consumer Federation of Kenya remain scheduled for hearings.
