Investment minister sees GEM opening as milestone in cultural and economic progress

Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan al-Khatib stated that the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) coincides with a notable boom Egypt is experiencing across all domains, creating positive global momentum toward Egypt. He emphasized this event's alignment with Egypt's leadership in global affairs and economic improvements.

In an editorial for the Middle East News Agency (MENA) on October 28, Hassan al-Khatib wrote that the world's recent focus has turned toward Egypt with hope and optimism to end the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza, culminating in Egypt hosting the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit for Peace, during which a ceasefire was announced, ending the tragedy endured for two years. He added: “This underscores Egypt’s position, leadership, role, and values that manifest in major global events.”

Economically, this significant event aligns with positive improvements reflected in economic indicators, such as increased growth rates, investments, and exports, as reported by international institutions monitoring Egypt’s economic performance. He noted that Egypt has been at the heart of the international scene, driven by major global companies and institutions interested in investing in Egypt or expanding existing operations.

Egypt is implementing an economic reform program applauded by international organizations, as evidenced during annual meetings with the International Monetary Fund and World Bank in Washington, followed by the Egyptian-European Summit in Brussels, which opened new horizons for economic cooperation in trade and investment.

In the cultural sphere, Egypt was prominent last month with the election of Khaled al-Enany as Director-General of UNESCO, whose overwhelming victory reflected global consensus on Egypt’s position and a testament to its people's capability to lead the international cultural scene. Al-Khatib stated: “We hope this marks a new starting point in increasing the influx of tourists to Egypt and the prosperity it brings to its people.” He concluded: “Welcome to Egypt’s guests… the land of history and civilization, a land of promising opportunities and a bright future.”
