Jaire Alexander steps away from football with Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Jaire Alexander has decided to step away from football to focus on his physical and mental well-being. The 28-year-old informed the team of his decision on Tuesday, shortly after being traded from the Baltimore Ravens. Alexander, a former first-round pick of the Green Bay Packers, did not travel for the Eagles' recent game due to a knee injury and coach's decision.

Jaire Alexander, the Eagles' recently acquired cornerback, has chosen to step away from football for the time being. According to a report from Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, Alexander aims to "focus on getting himself right physically and mentally before deciding on his future."

Alexander, 28, was traded to Philadelphia from Baltimore earlier this season. He had signed a one-year deal with the Ravens after being released by the Packers in June. With Baltimore, he appeared in just two games before the trade. His time with Green Bay began as a first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, followed by a four-year, $84 million contract extension in 2022.

The Eagles downgraded Alexander to out for their Sunday game and he did not travel to Green Bay for Monday night's matchup against the Packers. The team cited a knee injury and a coach's decision as reasons for his absence. This development comes amid Alexander's efforts to address ongoing physical and mental challenges.
