The Jakarta government has tallied Rp 3.1 billion in donations collected during its 2026 New Year's Eve celebrations, which prioritized solidarity with Sumatra disaster victims through prayers and fundraising instead of fireworks. Governor Pramono Anung praised residents' compassion at the Bundaran HI event.
Building on the solidarity-themed New Year's Eve events across Jakarta—detailed in prior coverage—the provincial government confirmed Rp 3.1 billion in public donations to support victims of flash floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and other areas. The funds, gathered at Bundaran HI amid joint prayers led by the Forum for Interfaith Harmony (FKUB), will be channeled through the National Zakat Amil Agency (Baznas), noted for its effective past distributions.
Governor Pramono Anung, speaking at the December 31 event, expressed profound gratitude: "This is a contribution from the Jakarta public, and we extend our utmost thanks for the compassion shown." He highlighted Ancol's additional donation of 10 percent of its December 31 revenue. The no-fireworks approach drew acclaim, with Pramono noting, "The public support is extraordinary. This reflects the empathy and maturity of Jakarta's pluralistic community."
Pramono hopes the collective prayers offer moral and spiritual solace alongside material aid. Alongside Deputy Governor Rano Karno, he reaffirmed commitment to public service in the New Year and announced plans to review future celebration formats for continued sensitivity.
