John Lee hails role models at Spirit of Hong Kong Awards

Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee praised unsung heroes at the Spirit of Hong Kong Awards ceremony, where firefighters were honored and Sa’diyya Nesar won the Lion Rock People’s Choice Award for promoting disability inclusion.

The Spirit of Hong Kong Awards, co-organised by the South China Morning Post and Sino Group at the Conrad Hong Kong, selected 10 winners from 27 finalists. The Fire Services Department received an appreciation flag to honor firefighters' contributions.

John Lee said in his speech: “They are ordinary people who, through their selfless and painstaking efforts … make an extraordinary difference for Hong Kong, our home.” He added: “We call them ‘unsung heroes’. But tonight, we are here to sing their praises.”

Lee highlighted that while the evening celebrated individual achievements, it also reflected the community’s commitment to mutual support. Sa’diyya Nesar won the Lion Rock People’s Choice Award for her work in promoting disability inclusion. The event took place on February 24, 2026, at the Conrad Hong Kong.
