Justin Cary, Sixpence None the Richer bassist, dies at 50

Justin Cary, the longtime bassist for Sixpence None the Richer, died Thursday at age 50 after suffering a stroke.

Cary passed away June 18 at Albany Medical Center in New York, according to a GoFundMe campaign and statements from the band. He had suffered a stroke the previous week and underwent two surgeries before his death.

Leigh Nash, the band's singer, shared tributes on Instagram. “We sure had a great time is an understatement. Thank you, Justin,” she wrote. “We love you forever. Please keep his dear Linda close to your hearts. She is our family.”

Cary joined Sixpence None the Richer in 1997, replacing bassist J.J. Plasencio. The band released its self-titled album that year, which included the hit “Kiss Me.” He also performed with artists including Counting Crows and Jennifer Knapp.
