Kapp delivers with bat and ball in Proteas victory

All-rounder Marizanne Kapp took two wickets and scored an unbeaten 81 to guide South Africa to a narrow win over India in the Women's T20 World Cup on 21 June.

South Africa lost the toss and bowled first against India. Kapp claimed two wickets for 27 runs to restrict the opposition. She then remained not out on 81 from 45 balls to secure the victory.

Kapp had felt unwell during the warm-up and even cried in the dressing room. Despite this she maintained tight lines with the ball and built a key partnership of 97 runs with Tazmin Brits after the Proteas slipped to 25 for two.

“It seems like whenever there’s something on the line, or we’re playing a World Cup, she finds a way to bring out her best cricket,” said captain Laura Wolvaardt. The win strengthened South Africa’s semifinal hopes after earlier losses to Australia and Pakistan.
