Korn Ferry Tour tracks player pace of play times

The Korn Ferry Tour has begun publishing speed of play data for its players. The initiative marks the first such effort by a major golf tour.

Dylan Menante ranks as the fastest player on the circuit. He completes tee shots 16 seconds quicker than the tour average and approach shots 14 seconds faster. Jordan Harris, the tour's chief referee, said officials monitor the data each week to identify slower players. Those averaging seven seconds or more behind the field receive average stroke time violations. Players face fines starting at $50,000 after 10 violations. Cole Sherwood, ranked 113th out of 137 in pace, noted the middle 50 percent of players differ by only about five seconds overall. The system relies on volunteers using an app to timestamp shots. Menante expressed hope the approach expands to the PGA Tour for greater accountability.

The PGA Tour will begin publicizing speed-of-play statistics for Korn Ferry Tour players next month. The data, including average stroke times by shot type, follows a decision by the PGA Tour Policy Board last November. The move aims to provide context to fans and support players labeled as slow.
