FC Barcelona's Lamine Yamal has been ruled out for the remainder of the La Liga season with a confirmed left hamstring injury sustained during the 1-0 win over Celta Vigo. Medical tests on April 23 verified the issue from the penalty he scored, with recovery expected in time for the summer World Cup.
In Barcelona's narrow 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo on April 21 at Spotify Camp Nou—covered previously—Yamal won and converted a penalty in the 38th minute for his 16th La Liga goal of the season. He immediately felt discomfort in his left hamstring, limping off and replaced by Roony Bardghji.
Tests conducted Thursday, April 23, at the Ciutat Esportiva confirmed the hamstring injury. FC Barcelona's official statement read: “The tests have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has a left hamstring injury.” The club opted for conservative treatment without surgery, stating “Lamine Yamal will miss the rest of the season and is expected to be available for the World Cup.”
With six La Liga matches left and a nine-point lead over Real Madrid, coach Hansi Flick loses his key right-winger. Interim president Rafa Yuste commented: “It is an important loss, but I am convinced the squad will pull through.” Teammate Gavi added: “He is the best and it is a hard blow for us because he is a very important player and we need him.”
The injury also affects Spain's national team, where coach Luis de la Fuente views Yamal as a starter ahead of their late-May camp and June 15 World Cup debut.
