Lille snatches draw against PSG thanks to Ethan Mbappé
Paris Saint-Germain was held to a 1-1 draw by Lille in the 7th round of Ligue 1 on Sunday, October 5, 2025. Despite a stunning goal from Nuno Mendes, the Parisians were leveled by Ethan Mbappé late in the game. This result allows PSG to regain the top of the table with a one-point lead.
Four days after their 2-1 victory in Barcelona in the Champions League, PSG traveled to Lille to close the 7th round of Ligue 1. Weakened by numerous injuries – Dembélé, Doué, Kvaratskhelia, Marquinhos, Joao Neves, and Fabian Ruiz –, Luis Enrique also left Hakimi, Nuno Mendes, and Vitinha on the bench at kickoff, fielding an experimental lineup with Willian Pacho as the only survivor from the last Champions League final.
The first half was dull, with PSG's only notable chance: Barcola missed the frame in the 43rd minute. After halftime, Barcola tried again in the 56th, but Özer parried his shot. The entries of Vitinha, Hakimi, and Nuno Mendes energized the Parisians. The latter, named captain upon entry, opened the scoring with a superb long-range free kick from the left in the 66th minute, beating the Lille goalkeeper.
PSG then dominated, but Hakimi missed a golden opportunity in the 82nd. On the next play, Ethan Mbappé, who had come on five minutes earlier, equalized with a shot from the edge of the box (83rd), to the delight of his brother Kylian in the stands. Goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, returning to his former club, was at fault on this action, as he has been in recent errors against Tottenham and Marseille.
Despite a solid defensive performance from Pacho and Mendes' decisive contribution, PSG failed to hold their lead. Lille, struggling offensively for 75 minutes, snatched a lucky draw. This point allows the Parisians to regain the top of the table, one point ahead of Marseille, Strasbourg, and Lyon. Gonçalo Ramos, starting up front, was isolated and ineffective.
