macOS 27 Golden Gate expands Sidecar touch support

Apple has released developer betas for macOS 27 Golden Gate, which add expanded touch functionality to Sidecar. Users can now test macOS navigation via touch on a compatible iPad. This comes ahead of any potential touchscreen MacBook.

The update allows tapping on controls, one-finger scrolling, system gestures and Markup when using an iPad as a second display. A new swipe-to-refresh gesture is also included.

To use the features, a Mac must run macOS 27 and pair with an iPad on iPadOS 27. Both devices need the same Apple ID, Wi-Fi network and Bluetooth, and must stay within 30 feet.

Developer betas are available now, with public betas planned for July and final releases set for September. A touchscreen MacBook with OLED display is not expected until late this year or early next year.
