Manny Malhotra named Vancouver Canucks head coach

The Vancouver Canucks have appointed Manny Malhotra as their new head coach. Malhotra, 46, arrives from the team's AHL affiliate Abbotsford Canucks.

Malhotra spent the past two seasons leading Abbotsford. In 2024-25 he guided the club to a 44-24-2-2 regular-season record and a 16-8 playoff mark that produced the first Calder Cup title for any Vancouver affiliate. His overall record across two seasons in Abbotsford stands at 72-61-6-5. Malhotra previously served as an assistant coach with the Canucks and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Daniel and Henrik Sedin, together with general manager Ryan Johnson, now oversee the club's hockey operations. Johnson highlighted their prior collaboration, stating that Malhotra is a strong teacher, leader and quality person. Malhotra played 991 NHL games and also appeared in the SHL with HV71 during the 2004-05 lockout.
