Christophe Rivenq, mayor of Alès, discovered a letter on Thursday containing two 9mm bullets signed DZ Mafia, along with threatening inscriptions on his fence.
The mayor's wife found the envelope in the mailbox at the end of the day. An investigation for death threats and intimidation has been opened by the Alès police station and the Direction of the Fight Against Organized Crime.
"Tags were found on the walls of my fence and my wife discovered the envelope in the mailbox with the bullets and the signature of the DZ Mafia," Christophe Rivenq told AFP. He added: "I had never received threats of this level."
The mayor stated that his actions against drug trafficking were bearing fruit and that he would not be intimidated. The DZ Mafia group has been present in the town since summer 2025.
