McLaren and Red Bull appeal Gasly Monaco podium reinstatement

McLaren and Red Bull have appealed the stewards' decision to restore Pierre Gasly's Monaco Grand Prix podium after a timing error led to erroneous penalties. The case will go before the FIA's International Court of Appeal in Geneva. A hearing is expected in July.

At the Monaco Grand Prix, several drivers including Gasly, Franco Colapinto, Oscar Piastri, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton received time penalties for pitlane speeding. These penalties stemmed from a timing loop error at the pit entry.

All affected drivers except Gasly and Colapinto served their penalties during the race. Gasly received a double five-second penalty after the flag, dropping him from third to seventh. Alpine requested a right of review, and stewards later rescinded the penalties, restoring Gasly's podium.

McLaren announced its appeal on Tuesday 16 June against the reinstatement and updated standings. The team stated that the decision raises questions of sporting fairness and risks disadvantaging competitors who followed the rules. Red Bull also appealed the amended result.

Mercedes had requested its own review for Russell but withdrew it after discussions with the FIA and Formula 1. The International Court of Appeal hearing is scheduled to take place in July.
