Merz meets European partners to prepare NATO summit

Chancellor Friedrich Merz met with counterparts from France, Britain, Italy and Poland in Berlin on Wednesday. The goal is to prepare for the NATO summit in early July in Ankara.

At the meeting in the Chancellery, Merz stressed that the Europeans wanted to make Ankara “a success”. The participants aim to send a signal of unity.

The meeting also serves to coordinate amid possible conflicts with the US government. Merz spoke of new challenges.

The participating countries are France, Britain, Italy and Poland. Together with Germany they form the so-called E5 group.
